1 Peter 3:15 | My Answer
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” – 1 Peter 3:15
I believe Jesus is Who He says He is. In the Book of John, Jesus said that He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” and I have reason to believe Him at His Word. Let's look at this in more detail.
1. The Way
In the Old Testament God provided for Israel the Law - the Ten Commandments - which highlighted a flawless blueprint to living a pure life for Him. It also highlighted that human beings aren't able to live without breaking that Law, therefore highlighting sin. In a way to combat the disease of sin, God showed a way to make atonement to Him which was through sacrifices and offerings. Throughout the Old Testament, there are prophets declaring that Something better is coming; that Something is Someone.
The New Testament begins with that Someone - the Man Jesus Christ. The only One fully Man and fully God. God came down in the form of a human being to make atonement for the sins of all mankind to those who believe and trust in His Name. Jesus sacrificed His life.
Jesus went further than the Old Testament Law to highlight our desperate, desperate need for a Saviour. Jesus paid the price so we don't have to. Jesus made a way for us to be blameless before God and have a relationship with Him. Jesus is the Way because He made a way.
2. The Truth.
Whenever Jesus speaks, Light shines. Some people respond to the Light with wanting more in their lives. Yet others respond with rejection, and carry on longing for the darkness of this world. Jesus spoke divine truth; the Light from His lips caused a response in people: either a reaction of repentance for redemption, or a rejection of relationship for remaining. We see the reason why Jesus is still the Truth today, because people still respond in the same way to His Good News. “People would rather continue to live in a lie than follow the Truth in a call to die.”
3. The Life.
When people enter that relationship with Jesus, not only do they receive the free gift of eternal life with Him, but their lives also change here. Through Jesus' death and resurrection we get life eternal. The Book of Revelation gives us a glimpse of this new life: “God's dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:3-4. This is the Good News!
Let's narrow in on the life change in this life. I have noticed that when people wholeheartedly follow Jesus Christ there is just something different in their eyes. Their eyes are full of life, and sparkle like the purest diamond. There is an abundance of joy and contentment. (The eyes reflect what is going on on the inside.) That person has hope for this life and the life to come. So, when trials, temptations, and sufferings occur in this life, we can hold onto Jesus who has promised us everlasting life to us who faithfully follow Him.
The reason I follow Jesus is simple: He is the only True Way to Life.
